In a continuing effort to offer a wide variety of services to its members, the San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce has partnered with SCORE (Senior Corp of Retired Executives) to provide mentoring and other resources to small businesses.

Founded in 1964, SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and succeed nationwide. SCORE, a 501C3 non-profit organization, is partially funded by the US Small Business Administration (SBA) and is a valuable network of over 13,000 volunteers, including 105 in the Phoenix-area. SCORE Volunteers offer small business entrepreneurs confidential business mentoring services at no charge. SCORE’s volunteers represent over 3,000 years of experience across 62 industries and have worked with over eight-million businesses over its nearly 50-year history.

“We tend to think we are one of the best-kept secrets in the country,”  said SCORE Mentor Scott Schreiber. “SCORE is able to offer assistance in everything from setting up a business, to creating business and marketing plans, to helping with expansion, or just getting a struggling business back on its feet. Our volunteer network is made up of former CEO’s, Vice Presidents, general managers and thousands of others who have seen every scenario and can provide free guidance to put businesses on the best path to success.”

In addition to mentoring services, SCORE also organizes and hosts seminars and events throughout the country. These events help to connect small business owners with the people and information they need to start, grow, and maintain their businesses. In addition, SCORE also offers online workshops that are available 24/7 to teach business owners skills such as using social media, how to create a business plan and learning about your competition.

“We are seeking to build alliances with under-served areas in the Valley that support the small business community and San Tan Valley is a great example,” Schreiber explained. “Our mentors are now available to Chamber members and we hope to host our first seminar there over the summer.”
